Saint Estèphe AOC is produced on the Saint Estèphe village, in the Medoc region. Medoc is a part of the great Bordeaux wine producing region. Saint Estèphe is located north of Pauillac. It is the most northern AOC in Medoc. Romans did bring the vine in Saint Estèphe, 2000 years ago. Big landlords have developed the vineyard during the 19th century. The Bordeaux “négociant” (= wine merchants) made them famous. Still today, big and beautiful chateaux remain from that time, symbols of their power and dynamism. Although Saint Estèphe is nearby Pauillac, the style of the wines is very different: they are rough, and need time to become smoother but still powerful.

In the past, the vineyard of the estate was owned by Leopold de Prades. After several inheritances, the property disappeared. In 1999, after several years of negociation, Marquis de Saint Estephe bought the estate and decided to call it chateau Leo de Prades to pay homage to the Marquis.
